  1. Day 01

    Delhi, end to end

    Collected from the airport, station or your home. Qutub Minar and Humayun's Tomb in the morning light, India Gate and the Rajpath afterwards, and the evening in the lanes of Chandni Chowk with a paratha you will remember.

  2. Day 02

    The Taj at first light

    Down to Agra by Gatimaan or Vande Bharat, or by road with a driver. The Taj Mahal on a sunrise or early slot, then Agra Fort across the river, and Mehtab Bagh for the view back at sunset.

  3. Day 03

    Fatehpur Sikri on the way

    Agra to Jaipur, stopping at Akbar's abandoned capital at Fatehpur Sikri and, if you like stepwells, the extraordinary one at Abhaneri. Into Jaipur by evening.

  4. Day 04

    Forts and bazaars

    Amber Fort early, Jal Mahal from the causeway, then the City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal. Afternoon left free for Johari Bazaar, block prints and a thali.

  5. Day 05

    Back to Delhi

    A last stop at Albert Hall or a textile workshop, then the drive or train back to Delhi and your onward flight.

Rajasthan Heritage

  1. Day 01

    Into Jaipur

    Arrive by flight or the morning train. Check in, then an easy evening at Nahargarh for the city lights.

  2. Day 02

    Pink city

    Amber Fort at opening, the City Palace and observatory through the middle of the day, and the old bazaars once the heat drops.

  3. Day 03

    To the blue city

    Jaipur to Jodhpur, with Pushkar's lake and temple on the way if you leave early. Evening on the ramparts of Mehrangarh, which is the finest fort in the state.

  4. Day 04

    Across the Thar

    Jodhpur to Jaisalmer through increasingly empty country. Sunset from the dunes at Sam or Khuri, with a desert camp night if you want one.

  5. Day 05

    The golden fort

    The living fort at Jaisalmer, Patwon ki Haveli, Gadisar lake, and the cenotaphs at Bada Bagh in the late light.

  6. Day 06

    South to the lakes

    A long but beautiful drive to Udaipur, broken by the marble Jain temple complex at Ranakpur.

  7. Day 07

    Udaipur

    The City Palace and Jagdish temple, Saheliyon ki Bari, and a boat on Lake Pichola as the palaces turn gold.

  8. Day 08

    Onward

    Breakfast by the lake, then your flight or train out of Udaipur.

Kashmir Valley

05 nights · 06 daysSrinagar · Gulmarg · Pahalgam Day-wise itinerary
  1. Day 01

    Srinagar and the lake

    Met at Srinagar airport and taken to your houseboat or hotel. The Mughal gardens at Nishat and Shalimar in the afternoon, and a shikara on Dal Lake at sunset.

  2. Day 02

    Gulmarg

    Up to the meadow at 2,650 metres for the gondola, which climbs towards Apharwat and the snow line. Back to Srinagar in the evening, or stay the night in season.

  3. Day 03

    Pahalgam

    The drive through saffron fields and cricket-bat willows to Pahalgam, then the Betaab and Aru valleys, with ponies for the last stretch if you want them.

  4. Day 04

    Sonmarg

    The meadow of gold, and the walk or pony ride up to the Thajiwas glacier. Back down the Sindh valley by evening.

  5. Day 05

    Old city, slowly

    Hazratbal and Jama Masjid, the papier-mâché and pashmina workshops, and a last night on the water.

  6. Day 06

    Home

    A morning shikara if the light is good, then the airport.

Ladakh

  1. Day 01

    Land high, do nothing

    Fly into Leh at 3,500 metres and rest. Altitude is not negotiable: the whole trip depends on this quiet first day.

  2. Day 02

    Leh and the monasteries

    Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace, then Thiksey at prayer time and Hemis or Shey if you have energy. Early night.

  3. Day 03

    Over the Khardung La

    One of the highest motorable passes in the world, then down into the Nubra valley for the cold dunes and double-humped camels at Hunder.

  4. Day 04

    Nubra to Pangong

    The Shyok river road across to Pangong Tso, arriving with enough light to watch the lake change colour. Night in a camp or homestay by the water.

  5. Day 05

    Back over the Chang La

    Sunrise at Pangong, then the return to Leh with a stop at Druk White Lotus school and the Rancho wall.

  6. Day 06

    Sham valley

    Magnetic Hill, the Indus and Zanskar confluence at Nimmu, Alchi's ancient murals, and Gurudwara Pathar Sahib.

  7. Day 07

    Out

    The early flight to Delhi, which gives you the Himalaya from the window.

Manali & Himachal

05 nights · 06 daysManali · Solang · Shimla Day-wise itinerary
  1. Day 01

    Overnight coach

    Board an air-conditioned Volvo in Delhi in the evening. Reclining seats, one dinner stop, and the hills at dawn.

  2. Day 02

    Manali

    Check in and slow down. Hadimba temple among the deodars, the old village at Vashisht and its hot springs, and Mall Road in the evening.

  3. Day 03

    Solang and the tunnel

    Up to Solang for the valley and the paragliding slopes, then through the Atal Tunnel to Sissu and the Lahaul side, snow permitting.

  4. Day 04

    Kullu and Manikaran

    Down the Beas through Kullu for river rafting or a shawl workshop, the castle at Naggar, and the hot springs and gurudwara at Manikaran.

  5. Day 05

    To Shimla

    The drive south to the old summer capital: the Ridge, Christ Church, Mall Road and the Scandal Point crowd at sunset.

  6. Day 06

    Return

    Kufri or the toy train in the morning, then the coach or a private car back to Delhi.

Goa

  1. Day 01

    Land and unwind

    Morning flight from Delhi, met at Dabolim or Mopa and taken to your hotel. The afternoon on Baga, Calangute or quieter Ashwem, whichever suits your temperament.

  2. Day 02

    Old Goa and Panjim

    The Basilica of Bom Jesus and Sé Cathedral before the heat, the Latin quarter of Fontainhas on foot, and a sunset cruise on the Mandovi.

  3. Day 03

    South, or the falls

    Palolem and Colva for calmer water and better swimming, or a jeep and train trip to the Dudhsagar falls in the monsoon months.

  4. Day 04

    Fly home

    A last swim, a late checkout if the hotel allows it, and the flight back.

  • Ropeways, ponies, rafting, safaris and local union taxis at hill points
  • Guides, camera fees and tips
  • Anything caused by weather, roadblocks or flight changes beyond our control

In the hills, some stretches must be run by local union vehicles, and Rohtang, Zoji La and the Ladakh passes open and close with the weather. We build slack into the plan and tell you honestly what is at risk in your month.
